Psalm 19:1-4
The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard. Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun I grew up in small town USA where I did not really have a choice of which church I would call home. Year after year I attended the Norton Christian Church where I received my foundation and my "home-church family." I am forever grateful for the lessons learned from those loving people.
Have you ever felt like you were just waiting on God? Waiting for relief, waiting for answers, waiting for anything - just to hear from the Lord. I think that is the posture behind Psalm 130. The Psalmist openly cries out to God and from the tone used, it feels as though the Psalmist has waited a while.
Be still and know that I am God.
This is the Psalm of choice for so many prayer journal covers and wall hangings that it seems to be a cliché in the Christian church today. We pick this little phrase out of Psalm 46, thinking we're being so holy, but do we actually live it out? Do we ever read the rest of the passage? I don't know about you, but as I read this Psalm, I realized that I have failed. |
