“You do not have to be everything; you were never nothing, because you are His.”
The first time I heard this sentence was the summer of 2016. I was in Lincoln, Nebraska, sitting among 2,000 high school students at a conference called CIY Move. Michael DeFazio was teaching and it was one of those moments when you think “I will remember that forever.” You see, that sentence changes the way we see ourselves. It shows us that perfection isn’t something we have to be in order for God to love us. It shows us that He meets us where we are and we no longer have to put our value in the things we do or how others view us.

Wow, to be completely honest, I’m speechless. I know… that’s not a good thing for a blogger to say (trust me, it doesn’t happen often)! The thing is, God’s goodness is truly indescribable. But I want to do my best to describe it with hopes that it will encourage you as much as it has me. :) As many of you know, I have been in the fundraising process to be able to join a CIY Engage team on a 10-day mission trip to Northern Ireland next summer (if you haven’t heard, check out this post!). I have felt a call on my heart to encourage and show the love of Christ to these people for a while now, but the price of the trip was intimidating; plus, I would be traveling across the globe with total strangers. For a high school senior – for most people – $3,500-$4,500 is a lot of money! However, I knew that God was leading me to this opportunity and that no matter what, I needed to follow. People would ask me how in the world I was going to raise that kind of money, and the truth was, I didn’t know. But I had trust that if God were indeed calling me to this mission, He would provide. Hey, everyone! It’s been a minute since I’ve posted here. Lately I’ve been considering the need for stillness in my life. Turning off the stress to write has helped me accomplish some other important things on my to-do list. But now, I’m back and am excited for this post as we dive into the story of how Jesus healed the lame man in John chapter five.
Isn’t it beautiful when you read a Biblical account that you’ve heard a hundred times, but Spirit shows it to you in a whole other light that makes you go “woah!?!” That is what happened to me this morning as I read through the fifth chapter of John. Let’s take a look! |
