I grew up in small town USA where I did not really have a choice of which church I would call home. Year after year I attended the Norton Christian Church where I received my foundation and my "home-church family." I am forever grateful for the lessons learned from those loving people.

Have you ever felt like you were just waiting on God? Waiting for relief, waiting for answers, waiting for anything - just to hear from the Lord. I think that is the posture behind Psalm 130. The Psalmist openly cries out to God and from the tone used, it feels as though the Psalmist has waited a while.
Be still and know that I am God.
This is the Psalm of choice for so many prayer journal covers and wall hangings that it seems to be a cliché in the Christian church today. We pick this little phrase out of Psalm 46, thinking we're being so holy, but do we actually live it out? Do we ever read the rest of the passage? I don't know about you, but as I read this Psalm, I realized that I have failed. Psalm 75 is a Psalm that brings me peace and holds me in my place. It reminds me who God is and who I am because of him. It reminds me that I can let go and give it all over to God because he is the one who holds the foundations of the earth firm.
My dad came to surprise me! He drove 7.5 hours to show up on my beautiful Ozark campus for Preaching and Teaching week. He took me to get BBQ and to get ice cream; we went to Walmart and this girl got her list paid for (college kid perks!!)! We also got coffee and I proved that I know his taste better than he thinks I do.
Okay, I know what you're thinking, "good for you, but why should I care?" |
